Brief Information
Ministry of Defence (Navy), Apprentice Training School, Naval Ship Repair Yard (Sri Vijaya Puram) has released an apprenticeship training notification for the IT-03 Batch 2026-27. The recruitment is for a one-year Technician (Vocational) Apprentice Programme in 13 designated trades with a total of 50 vacancies. Age Limit
Minimum: 18 Years — Maximum: No Upper Age Restriction.
The candidate must be at least 18 years of age on the day immediately preceding the commencement of the Technician (Vocational) Apprentice Programme for the IT-03 Batch at NSRY (Sri Vijaya Puram).
Qualification
Minimum educational qualification is Matriculation (10th) followed by ITI passed in the respective relevant trade under NCVT or SCVT.
The ITI trade must correspond to the prescribed relevant ITI trade for the designated apprenticeship trade under the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, as amended from time to time.
Eligibility Conditions
- Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply.
- Candidate must have passed Matriculation/Class 10th followed by relevant ITI.
- ITI qualification must be under NCVT or SCVT in the prescribed relevant trade.
- Minimum age is 18 years as prescribed in the notification.
- There is no upper age restriction for apprenticeship training.
- Candidate must satisfy the prescribed physical fitness requirements.
- Candidates who have already undergone or are currently undergoing apprenticeship in the same trade under the Apprentices Act, 1961 are not eligible.
- Candidates must have suitable character and antecedents. Questionable or suspicious antecedents may lead to rejection and candidature may be cancelled if police verification is not satisfactory.

Note: The vacancy numbers mentioned in the notification are indicative and may change at a later stage during the final assessment of eligible candidates.
Reservation
- Reservation will be applicable as per Rule 5 of the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 and the applicable provisions for the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
- 3% of vacancies are horizontally reserved for eligible Persons with Disability (PwD), subject to prescribed fitness relaxation criteria.
- 3% of overall vacancies are reserved for Ex-Servicemen, their children and children of Armed Forces Personnel as prescribed in the notification.
- PwD and Ex-Servicemen horizontal reservations are adjusted against the appropriate UR/OBC/SC/ST category.
- If reserved vacancies cannot be filled because eligible candidates are unavailable, the vacancies may be filled by candidates not belonging to those categories.
- Unfilled vacancies of one enrolment will not be carried forward as backlog to the next enrolment.
Stipend
Selected apprentices will be paid a monthly stipend in accordance with the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 or the rates revised by the Government from time to time.

Selection Process
- Preliminary Merit List: Trade-wise and category-wise merit list based on aggregate percentage of marks obtained in ITI and Class 10th.
- Technical Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview at Apprentice Training School, Naval Ship Repair Yard, Sri Vijaya Puram.
- Interview Marks: The interview carries 50 marks and candidates will be tested for technical skills in their respective trade.
- Final Merit List: Final merit will consider interview marks along with the prescribed selection process.
- Tie-Breaker: In case of equal marks, the elder candidate will be placed above the younger candidate. If the tie continues, alphabetical order of first name, middle name and surname as recorded in the Class 10 certificate will be considered.

- Medical Requirements: Candidates must satisfy the prescribed medical/physical fitness requirements before enrolment.

Medical Examination
All applicants are required to obtain a medical fitness certificate from a Government Hospital/Government Medical Officer.
Candidates are also required to satisfy the physical fitness standards prescribed under Rule 4 and Schedule II of the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 and will be examined by the Yard Medical Officer before enrolment.

Trade Test & National Apprenticeship Certificate
Every full-term apprentice who completes the prescribed training period will have to appear for a trade proficiency test conducted by the respective Apprentice School or another agency authorized by the Central Government.
Apprentices who pass the prescribed examination will be issued the National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) for proficiency in the trade by the Directorate General of Training (DGT).
Apprenticeship After Training
Completion of apprenticeship training does not guarantee permanent employment with Naval Ship Repair Yard, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The Naval Ship Repair Yard is not obligated to offer employment after completion of training, and an apprentice is also not obligated to accept employment if offered.
Travel, Boarding & Lodging
- Travel Expenses: No travel expenses will be paid for candidates called for interview, document verification or joining.
- Boarding/Lodging: Candidates must arrange their own boarding and lodging.
- Naval Ship Repair Yard, Sri Vijaya Puram will not provide boarding or lodging arrangements.
Facilities During Training
- Yard Medical Centre facilities will be extended for work/training-related injuries.
- If suitable treatment is not available at the Yard Medical Centre, the apprentice may be referred to GB Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram.
- Necessary textbooks may be supplied on loan as far as possible.
- Apprentices will be supplied with prescribed workshop/safety clothing and equipment.

Apprenticeship Contract
Selected candidates are required to execute the apprenticeship contract with the employer through the online apprenticeship portal under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
The apprenticeship contract will be governed by the Apprentices Act, 1961 and Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, as amended from time to time.
If the employer fails to carry out the terms and conditions of apprenticeship, compensation may be payable to the apprentice according to the applicable Act and Rules. If an apprentice leaves the training voluntarily, the apprentice may be liable to pay compensation to the employer as determined under the applicable rules.
