Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for Stenographer Grade 'C' (Group B Non-Gazetted) and Grade 'D' (Group C) Examination 2026. Total 731+ tentative vacancies. Candidates who have passed 12th standard (or equivalent) from a recognized board are eligible to apply. Age limit: 18-30 years for Grade 'C' and 18-27 years for Grade 'D'. Skill test in stenography (English/Hindi) is qualifying in nature. Online applications will be accepted from 24th April 2026 to 15th May 2026. Qualification Details

Essential Educational Qualification (as on 01.08.2026): Candidates must have passed 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University. Degrees through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) recognized by UGC-DEB are also acceptable. Engineering/Medical degrees through ODL mode are not permitted except IGNOU B.Tech up to 2009-10 as per Supreme Court order.

Scribe & Compensatory Time for PwBD/PwD

Eligible for scribe (with certificate of limitation to write): PwBD candidates (Blindness, Locomotor disability - both arms affected, Cerebral Palsy) AND PwD candidates with <40% disability & difficulty in writing (Annexure-IA).
Compensatory Time: 20 minutes per hour of exam (2h40m for 2h paper).
Scribe Qualification: One step below candidate's qualification.
Own Scribe: Must complete OTR & Aadhaar authentication on SSC website.
Restriction: A candidate cannot be a scribe for another candidate in same exam. Scribecannot assist more than one candidate.


How to Apply (Step-by-Step)

  1. Visit SSC official website: https://ssc.gov.in or download "my SSC" mobile app from Google Play Store.
  2. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new website (old OTR from ssc.nic.in is invalid). OTR requires basic details, Aadhaar (optional but recommended), mobile/email verification.
  3. Login with Registration Number and Password.
  4. Click on "Apply" link for "Stenographer Grade 'C' & 'D' Examination 2026" under Live Exam tab.
  5. Fill the application form: personal, educational, category, age relaxation, centre preferences (3 centres anywhere in India), post preference (Grade C / D / Both), medium of skill test (English/Hindi).
  6. Capture live photograph (no pre-existing photo allowed unless Aadhaar-authenticated). Ensure good light, plain background, no cap/spectacles, front view.
  7. Upload scanned signature (JPEG/JPG, 10-20 KB, dimension ~6.0cm width x 2.0cm height).
  8. Upload Disability Certificate (if applicable for PwBD/PwD scribe facility).
  9. Preview the complete application, verify all details.
  10. Pay fee ₹100 (if not exempted) online via BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Debit card.
  11. Submit form and take printout of final submitted application for record.

Important: Applications with blurred/miniature signatures or captured photo of pre-existing photograph will be rejected (unless Aadhaar-authenticated). Only one application per candidate; multiple applications lead to cancellation.

Important Instructions & Warnings

  • Name, father's name, mother's name, DOB must exactly match Matriculation Certificate. Any variation leads to cancellation.

  • Application correction window is limited (20-21 May 2026) with charges. No correction later.
  • Negative marking: 0.25 per wrong answer in CBE.
  • Skill Test is qualifying; final merit based on CBE score only.

  • Courts/tribunals having jurisdiction over the place of concerned Regional Office where candidate appeared for CBE will handle disputes.

  6. Pay ₹100 fee (if not exempted) online via UPI/Net Banking/Card.
  7. Submit and take printout of final application.
