Brief Information

Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC), Western Railway has released notification No. RRC/WR/04/2025 Apprentice for engagement of 5,349 Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Candidates who have passed Matriculation (10th) with 50% marks and possess relevant ITI (NCVT) certificate can apply online from 21 February 2026 to 23 March 2026. All details regarding age limit, qualification, vacancy trade‑wise, fee and selection process are given below.

Age Limit (as on 23/03/2026)

Minimum: 15 years — Maximum: 24 years (UR)

Age relaxation: SC/ST – 5 years, OBC – 3 years, PwBD – 10 years (additional over category), Ex‑Servicemen – as per norms.

Detailed category‑wise permissible birth dates are given in the official notification (Page 2).


Qualification (as on 18/02/2026)

Educational: Matriculation (10th) with minimum 50% aggregate marks (all subjects, not best of five).

Technical: ITI certificate (NCVT) in the relevant trade. Engineering graduates / diploma holders are NOT eligible.

Selection Process

  1. Merit list based on average of Matriculation (50% aggregate) and ITI marks (equal weightage).
  2. No written test / interview.
  3. Document Verification (DV) with Medical Certificate (Annexure G).
  4. Tie‑breaking: older candidate > earlier Matriculation pass.

How to Calculate Merit Marks

  • Matriculation: total marks of all subjects (not best of five); convert CGPA to actual percentage.
  • ITI: average marks of all semesters as per consolidated marksheet.
  • Final merit = (Matric % + ITI %) / 2.

Documents to Upload (scanned)

  1. 10th marksheet & certificate (proof of DOB).
  2. Consolidated ITI marksheets (all semesters) & National Trade Certificate.
  3. Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC‑NCL) in Central Govt format (OBC‑NCL valid for 2025‑26).
  4. EWS certificate (Annexure H) if applicable.
  5. PwBD certificate (Annexure E/F) if applicable.
  6. Discharge/Serving certificate for Ex‑Servicemen category.
  7. Recent colour photograph (3.5×3.5 cm, 20‑70 KB) and signature (20‑30 KB).

Note: Certificates in language other than Hindi/English must be accompanied by attested translation.


Medical & Physical Standards

  • Medical certificate from Govt. doctor (Gazetted, Asst. Surgeon or above) in Annexure G format.
  • Minimum height 137 cm, weight 25.4 kg, chest expansion 3.8 cm (relaxation if certified fit for specific trade).
  • Visual acuity, hearing, etc. as per standards; specific permissible disabilities for PwBD candidates are detailed in notification (Pages 5‑6).

Training & Stipend

Training period: 1 year. Stipend: as per Railway Board rules.

No guarantee of employment after apprenticeship. Free medical treatment for injuries during training. No hostel accommodation.
