Central Railway has released a notification for empanelment of Advocates as Railway Advocates for District and Subordinate Courts under its jurisdiction covering Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka. Interested Advocates with LL.B. degree and minimum 3 years of practice can apply via email only. The last date to submit applications is 23.10.2026. No offline applications will be accepted.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification: The Advocate should possess a Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized University. Preference may be given to Advocate with higher qualifications in Law or related disciplines.

Professional Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in practice as an Advocate. Experience certificate must be endorsed by the Chairman of the concerned Bar Association and submitted with the application.

Superannuated Railway Officials: The tenure of handling legal cases in Railways by superannuated Railway Officials who have enrolled as Advocate shall be considered towards the prescribed eligibility criteria. Certificate must be endorsed by respective DGM/Law or DY CLO or legal head of the Zonal Railway/PU.

Specialization: Consideration will be given to the length of legal practice. Specialization and experience in representing Railways, Government, PSUs, or similar institutions will carry added weight.

Infrastructure: Weightage will be given to the Advocate having proper and adequate infrastructure including Office premises, Junior Advocate, Clerical staff, Computer, Printer and internet connection, etc.

Professional Achievements: The number of cases where the Advocate has secured favourable judgments or orders. Decisions that have been reported/referred to in reputed legal journals or databases may be considered as evidence of professional competence.

Integrity and Background Verification: The Advocate's track record and professional integrity may be verified. If deemed necessary, a discreet enquiry may be made with the respective Bar Council or Bar Association regarding the Advocate's claims, conduct, and credentials.

Vacancy Details

The number of Advocates to be empanelled for each Court have been determined by the Central Railway based on latest requirements. The number of Advocates indicated in Annexure II is tentative. The actual number to be empanelled may be increased/decreased at the administrative discretion, taking into consideration of the volume, nature and importance of Court cases, or any other relevant factors at the time of empanelment.

Selection Process

  1. Shortlisting by Railway (Twice the number of applications required to be empanelled)
